How to Apply for Open Enrollment
- Download the Application: Access the Iowa Department of Education’s open enrollment form here.
- Complete the Form: each student requires a separate application.
- Submit Your Application: Applications must be submitted to both your resident and Colfax-Mingo Schools by the deadlines below.
Important Deadlines
- March 1: Deadline for regular open enrollment applications for the upcoming school year.
- September 1: Deadline for kindergarten and special education students to enroll for the current year.
Transportation Guidelines
Parents/Guardians of students approved for open enrollment are responsible for transporting their students to and from school. The state code allows parents to request transportation assistance. Specific income guidelines must be met to qualify for the assistance, separate from those for the free/reduced lunch program. Documentation of the family’s income must be submitted each year the assistance is requested and updated any time the income changes by more than $50 per month. Guidance on Athletic Eligibility
Unless an exception applies, the General Transfer Rule (281–IAC 36.15(3) prohibits a student-athlete from participating in varsity athletics for 90 school days (not including summer school) after transferring from one Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) or Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Association (IGHSAU) member or associate member school or school district to another.
