In accordance with the Iowa Code, all private instruction testing must be complete by May 2, 2017. All private instruction (home school) Iowa Assessments must be to Iowa Testing Programs for scoring on or before May 9, 2017.
Under the Private Instruction legislation, the only children that require an annual assessment are those whose parents elect to choose the Competent Private Instruction with Opt-In Reporting. However, parents of children who are part of your Home Schooling Assistance Program, CPI with a supervising teacher and CPI with Opt-Out Reporting may request an annual assessment (most likely Iowa Assessments). All annual assessments are free of cost to the home school parent.
Home School Testing: Stanford Achievement Testing for Private Instruction
A parent, guardian, or legal or actual custodian enrolling a student in CPI [Competent Private Instruction] under Option 1 must submit FORM A in duplicate to the school district of residence.
A parent, guardian, or legal or actual custodian enrolling a student in CPI under Option 2 may submit Form A in duplication to the school district of residence. A parent, guardian, or legal or actual custodian enrolling a student in CPI under Option 2 and electing dual enrollment must submit Form A in duplicate to the school district of residence.
Form A is required, under the conditions described above, if the student is 6 years old on or before September 15 and not yet 16 years old and does not attend an Iowa public or accredited nonpublic school.
Return Form A to the school district secretary by September 1 or within 14 calendar days of removing the student from a public or accredited nonpublic school or 14 calendar days from moving into the school district.
(If the student will be enrolled in a home school assistance program, please notify the district if the student will also be dually enrolled.)
Form A is not applicable to families choosing Independent Private Instruction, or for those using CPI Option 2 without dual enrolling or opting to report.
