Speech Competition

The Colfax-Mingo Speech Team, coached by Ms. Sherman, have been preparing for competition the past few months. Juniors Evalyn Anderson and Layne Keller represented the school in a debate on January 10 at DMACC in Ankeny. The category of the debate was politico and topic copyright and patent. The pair did a great job and scored 26 points in both rounds.
Next, the large group team took part in the district contest which was held at South Tama High School on Saturday, January 25. The team took part in two competitions – Improv and Readers Theater. For the Improv portion, the team was presented with a topic and had two minutes to prepare and present their performance. The Readers Theater team performed a ten-minute performance entitled “Death by Public Speaking” by Linda Cooke with hilarious characters and an interesting story. The seven member team earned a division I rating on their Reader’s Theater piece and will advance to state competition at Cedar Rapids on Saturday, February 8th. Good luck!
